Broadway Neighbor Thursdays with Al

When Silbers attack, you should just pose. It’s easier that way.

Okay, just one Silber. Al, to be exact.

And she attacked me, as she always does, with her whole-hearted, full-out, grab-life-by-the-balls and run with it beautiful self.

We had this thing on Thursdays. Since we were Broadway Neighbors, I would finish my matinee, get some food, and meet Al at the Starbucks on 47th and 8th. She would practice for her voice lesson and then we would get coffee and sit in the park with all the crazy dudes playing poker or dominoes and just talk and check in and have friend time before the evening show.

I grew very attached to these Thursdays. Her show just closed last Sunday, and my contract in my show was up the same night, so we knew it was the last Broadway Neighbor Thursday. Al also happens to be a rockin’ photographer, so I begged her to take my outfit pictures and she kindly obliged. We loved this red wall on 48th st.

The reason I’m wearing sunglasses? Underneath them is a pair of fake eyelashes and approximately 95 pounds of stage makeup shellacked into my face. I didn’t think you needed to see that. However, my wig prep hair is kind of cool for everyday, which is why I didn’t cover it with anything:

On trend, hilariously enough, since I’ve been bobby-pinning braids to my head since I first wore a wig and discovered that my hair will not pin-curl.

Long jersey dresses are good for two-show days. Throw them on, don’t think about it, pile on jewelry so you don’t feel frumpy, and ignore the what-the-hell-is-that-girl-doing-with-all-that-makeup stares from the tourists as you get your lunch.

Easy, like leaning against a red wall, pretending to be normal.

Thanks for taking pictures, Al. I will miss our Thursday coffees, but I am excited for the fall adventures.
