confoundandconfused asked: So, I have been trying to change my style for a few months now. I'm so used to wearing tee shirts, I'm trying to dress classier and more mature, I love your sense of fashion. Any tips on how to leave old habits behind and dress more unique? And perhaps any cheap/great stores to find outfits for the party/night scene? :)

I think making inspirational collages is a great way to get started! Think about the people and designers that inspire you, and find the through-line (vintage, romantic, rockstar, whimsical) with that. When you’re getting ready to make the leap to more grown-up dressing, quality is key. Don’t buy ten cheap things, buy the one thing that’s a bit more expensive and keep it forever. Invest in the things that inspire you.

I also won’t buy an article of clothing until I can make three outfits with it in my head, using clothes I already own. By integrating each new piece almost immediately, I can see its shelf life in my closet. Doing this helps me to save money on pieces that I know I won’t wear, and letting me buy the pieces I know I will.

Style takes time, and is full of trial and error. Don’t expect it to all come together immediately. Take the time to really figure out who you are and the nonverbal ways you want to communicate to the world around you. I know you’ll be great!

Good luck!
