Ikat Fairy

I totally feel like a fairy in that picture. Way more delicate than I am in real life.
Summer Parties.
Summer parties at beautiful houses upstate with amazing people who make me nervous because they are so amazing, in gauzy linen and silk that make me feel a hell of a lot fancier than i actually am. Yes, I am aware that that wasn’t a full sentence. It’s okay, though.

I am pretty freakin’ obsessed with these shorts. I’m a huge fan of all things purple (as we all know), I love a good ikat (as I don’t know if you knew or not, but now you do, so yay for everyone!), and they are from J. Crew, which has become Blogger Mecca in the past couple of years.
I remember when the J. Crew catalog used to come when I was in junior high/high school, poring through it, living for the bright colors and wondering what the shortest possible short I could get away with would be.
Even then, I liked showing leg.

Funny story about the shorts:
I had an idea in my head about what I wanted to wear to this party, but I wasn’t sure how I could make it happen. I had just bought the shirt, so I knew I wanted to wear that and balance it with something a bit more structured, still summery, and hopefully with a rich color to balance out all the white/neutrals.
I wandered into the J. Crew at Columbus Circle with just a little bit of time to kill. I saw these shorts and swooned. I looked for my size. Nope. Not anywhere. These were some popular shorts. I checked the ones on the mannequin.
Yep. Well, maybe, but I was hoping I’d be able to squeeze into them depending on how J. Crew’s sizing was organized.
I begged the really nice girl standing near them to let me try them on- she had to ask her manager.

They took apart the mannequin for me. It was a two-person operation, and I had my fingers crossed that I’d be able to fit into these shorts, because I was going to have to buy them anyway. They took apart the mannequin! What kind of an ass would I have been had I not bought them after that? I mean, I have a couple of years of retail experience under my belt and have taken apart many a mannequin to no avail, so I didn’t want to do that to anyone else! Thankfully, everything worked out.
Huge thanks to the people at the Columbus Circle J. Crew for helping me out that day!
