Only During Fashion Week…

…can this outfit be described as “simple.”

yeah. this outfit. Seriously! I was waiting to cross the street near Lincoln Center, and a guy turned to me and said “I love your look- it’s just so simple and elegant.”

A very sweet compliment, and I guess, considering the week and the other outfits around, simple, but simple?

Sometimes outfits come to me in the shower, or in a dream, or some amalgamation of the two based on my obsessive followings of street style blogs and internet stalking of my friends-

I saw knit shorts on sale at Urban Outfitters. Sometimes, I have a strangely hard time embracing certain trends because of my dance background. I used to wear Repetto pointe shoes, long before they made the transition into streetwear. Low t-strap heels just remind me of my-first-character-shoes. There are other examples, but I’m not going to bore you with them. But really? Knit shorts, when I have so many pairs kicking around in my dance-clothes box? Fair enough.

I have only worn this sheer skirt a couple of times, and there is just something about it that makes me feel edgy and badass and then I look down and it’s lacy and then I have an identity crisis.

So anyway. I thought up this outfit and then I texted it to my friend Liz, saying “can I leave the house like this?”

She said I could. I trust her. We then met up for one of those absurd New York days that just kept unfolding.

First, I stopped by the blogger picnic in Central Park to see Veronika and some other folks, then ran downtown to the show (photos in my last post), then back uptown with Liz to my friend Greg’s event at the Empire Hotel (thank you so much for hosting us), then dinner with more bloggers.

It’s always funny being the only New Yorker in a group full of tourists when they want to eat. I am all of a sudden expected to come up with dinner suggestions and I never have them. I am not good on the spot. Plus, there were nine of us. I had the brilliant idea of going to do ramen in the East Village. Easy, cheap, fast, fun, far away from the madness at the tents.

We get on the train, attempt to switch to the L at 14th and 8th.

no L.

WHY DO YOU TAUNT ME LIKE THIS, MTA?

We wound up at the Vynl in Chelsea, and luckily my dear lovely friend Chris was working (Quick aside on Chris: he is amazing. he writes a daily haiku and posts it on his facebook page. oftentimes, his haikus are the highlight of my day.), and he took amazing care of us.

The absurdly beautiful Andrea (of Blonde Bedhead) snapped all of these outfit shots for me- it was so wonderful to be able to sit and get to know her a little bit over dinner- she is just a fantastic lady, and I’m so glad to make a new blogger friend!

just some simple details from the simple outfit.

The day continued with an eveningtime adventure with my lovely Amyjo.

I love New York.
